WHAT IS A MEDICAL MISSION? Medical Missions are self funded trips taken to countries with insufficient means of providing proper healthcare to its underserved communities. Medical Missions serve the purpose of volunteering time to assist doctors, nurses, and other various healthcare workers in working to take vitals, and helping to administer medical procedures to patients. Medical Missions fulfill one of PUSO’s mission statements, which is to spread PUSO Love, as everyone should be deserving of medical help, no matter their circumstance.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF GALA? PUSO hosts an annual dinner-dance benefit Gala at the end of the school year to provide recognition to the not only the Medical Mission recipients, both past and present, but also to the purpose of the medical mission as a whole. Gala serves to be the culminating event from a years long worth of donations and fundraising in which all proceeds from the event go towards funding the Medical Mission Scholarship. Throughout the night, PUSO celebrates the diverse talent within the organization through the means of song and dance. In addition, past Medical Mission recipients present their experiences and takeaways from their journeys abroad to various health care professionals, University representatives, students, families, and other guests. To end the night, guests are invited to dance the night away, in the spirit of good health and healthcare improvement worldwide. .

WHAT IS THE MEDICAL MISSION SCHOLARSHIP? Each year, the Medical Mission Scholarship is presented to an exemplary member that exhibits a passionate heart for the underserved as well as the drive to provide adequate healthcare to all. The individual is evaluated upon their past experiences, current aspirations and values. (As such, the Medical Mission Scholarship recipient is determined through an application process, in which the applicant undergoes a series of interviews.)
