WHAT IS THE HSO LONG TERM PROGRAM? The Long-Term Program seeks PUSO general members who will have the opportunity to be facilitators to students at Santa Ana High School (SAHS) & Clovis North High School (CNEC). From providing academic information to mental health resources, facilitators will work with AVID students to promote an interest in higher education and personal success. Applications and interviews to be a facilitator will be held in Fall Quarter while the program will occur throughout Winter and Spring Quarter.

WHAT DOES A LONG-TERM HSO FACILITATOR DO?

  1. Attend 2 hour biweekly sessions at SAHS & CNEC. Facilitators will be assigned to two classrooms filled with freshman/sophomore students.

  2. Meet up to review previous and create upcoming lesson plans for an hour during off-weeks.

  3. Develop leadership, teamwork, and good public speaking skills.

  4. Communicate effectively with the students, SAHS & CNEC staff, fellow facilitators, and HSO coordinators.

  5. Be a committed and proactive member of the program. Remember, all that we do is for the benefit of the students.

WHAT IS THE HSO SHORT TERM PROGRAM? The Short-Term Program seeks facilitators and general members to be a part of HSO One-Day, an event wrapping up the entirety of the SAHS & CNEC Avid Student Program. Each spring, PUSO invites the Avid students from SAHS & CNEC to UCI and plan a day filled with activities to get students excited about college. This event ranges from guest speakers to campus tours to additional college resources and more. All in which the students are able to learn the real “day-in-the-life” of a college student.

WHAT DOES THE SHORT TERM PROGRAM CONSIST OF?

  1. Guest speakers sharing their experiences, wisdom, and support for college.

  2. Performances by the well-known dance crew: PusoBeat.

  3. Campus tours highlighting the major schools at UCI and prominent classes taken within all college students.

  4. A visit to one of the illustrious dining halls within UCI: The Anteatery or Brandywine.

  5. A closing event that develops a deeper understanding within the students and their desired pathways for the future.
